Important cultural note:Demons call their descendants "daughter", "son", or "child", no matter how many generations separate them. The demons are immortal and don't bother to keep track of the birth and death of generations. They can recognize their descendants, and it is considered to be an honor for demonkin to be acknowledged as daughter/son/child. Richard doesn't explain this because it's common knowledge to him and Hanna. She's just complaining. She understands what King of Serpents means, she just wants no part of it. Richard himself is a "son" to Kyalam Johnson's demon parent, so he's used to the term being used like that.
